New Faculty

We welcome you, new faculty, to Georgia Southern University. We are excited to have you join our academic community and bring your knowledge, experiences, and fresh perspectives. We are confident that your dedication to teaching, research, and mentorship will inspire and empower our students, shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

Important Note:

As part of your onboarding, all faculty—regardless of rank or track—are asked to complete a few standard steps to support a smooth and inclusive experience for students. This includes uploading your course information and a current CV to the Simple Syllabus platform.

New faculty must also be aware that all course materials and documents uploaded to course and learning platforms should meet WCAG Level AA accessibility standards, helping ensure content is usable for all students, including those using assistive technologies.

Newly hired faculty members at Georgia Southern University will receive an email invitation to access the GS Onboarding System and complete the new hire “packet.” This email will contain a default login and password. The onboarding system includes a 16-minute timeout feature for security, so if there is a timeout, faculty members can return to the Onboarding System and resume the packet using their login and password.

In addition to completing the onboarding packet, a few additional steps need to be taken to finalize the faculty member’s records. First, they must present the required I-9 documentation to HR within 3 business days of employment. This documentation is necessary to verify their identity and eligibility to work. Failure to complete this step within the specified timeframe may result in ineligibility for continued employment.

If faculty members have any inquiries about benefits or retirement choices, they can contact HR at hrservice@georgiasouthern.edu or reach out to GS Human Resources at 912-478-6947 to schedule an appointment with a senior consultant.

Once faculty members receive an email from HR with their employee ID after entry into OneUSG, they can access OneUSG Connect. This system lets them update their personal details, such as W4, G4, direct deposit information, and more.

If new faculty members have questions about the GS Onboarding System or the onboarding process, they can contact Human Resources at hrservice@georgiasouthern.edu.
